Deerness Art Group is an association of amateur artists resident in the North East region. We draw our members from the Tyne to North Yorkshire. Our interests are painting related activities centred on developing our skills, knowledge and enjoyment from our hobby or semi-professional activities.
Our current base for regular monthly meetings is St Aidans Church Hall, Framwellgate Moor, DH0 5BL (11am-3pm). Some of these monthly meetings are tutored by professional tutors. We organise regular annual exhibitions for members’ work and arrange art related visits to exhibitions and galleries. The group is managed by an annually elected Committee of Members. It is a not for profit organisation and a registered charity. (No. XT 3963)

Every year we award the Shafto Prize for the best in show at our annual exhibition. The winner is usually chosen by an invited professional.
Once a year we hold a "Painting Challenge” day, weather permitting en plein air at which we award the Bob Miller Award in memory of a long standing founder member. This handsome trophy will be awarded annually for the best painting on the day. It was awarded for the first time in 2012.
We also try to have non-competitive painting days, just for pleasure.
